Optimized 90° Hybrids with Sidewall Grating in Silicon on Insulator

Abstract

MMI-based 90° hybrids are optimized with sidewall gratings acting as effective index medium, notably increasing the usable bandwidth. Optimum grating parameters are determined with eigenmode expansion and Floquet-Bloch theory.
