Silicon Microring Modulators for Advanced Modulation Formats

Abstract

Coherent optical transmitters can be implemented on silicon photonic integrated circuits with compact sizes and low cost. Here, we demonstrate a 56-Gb/s quadrature phase-shift keying modulation generated by silicon microring modulators with thermal control elements.
