Abstract

We describe an algorithm to determine the optimum signal constellation in MMSE- sense for channel capacity achieving source distribution, and demonstrate that the signal constellations obtained by this algorithm outperform conventional QAM constellations (~1 dB for 16-ary constellation at BER of 10-8).
