Polarization Effects in Coherent Systems

Abstract

Relevant polarization effects in coherent systems include polarization mode dispersion, polarization dependent loss, and polarization transients. This paper reviews coherent receivers’ tolerances to these impairments and discusses recent field measurements of PDL and polarization transients.
