Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate an asynchronous photonic neuron using four-wavemixing in photonic-crystal fiber and cross-absorption-modulation in an electro-absorption- modulator. Our approach enables completely asynchronous-spiking in response to input signals, while maximizing the throughput relative to synchronous approaches.
