Abstract

A single-mode fiber (SMF) acousto-optic tunable filter (AOTF) with a wide tuning range of 300 nm is demonstrated. The SMF used here has six air holes in the cladding region that causes a larger difference between higher-order modes’ indices compared to those of a conventional SMF. A single resonance peak for the coupling to the first higher-order modes is appeared in the transmission spectrum of SMF AOTF over the wavelength range 1.3–1.6 μm.
