Power Consumption and Scalability of Optically Switched Interconnects for High-Capacity Network Elements

Abstract

Three realizations of optically switched interconnects were analyzed regarding power consumption and scalability and compared with electronic backplane and optical point-to-point options. The results showed that optically switched interconnects provide higher power efficiency.
