Tailoring rare-earth emission spectra through controlled energy transfer

Abstract

Optical fiber preforms were solution doped with lanthanide-containing nanoparticles. The nanoparticles spatially localize the doping yielding multiply-doped glasses that did not show energy transfer. This approach opens doors to novel broadband amplifiers and lasers.
