Remote Detection of Fiber Fuse Propagating in Optical Fibers

Abstract

A novel technique of remotely detecting fiber fuse from the electrical spectrum of backreflected light is proposed and demonstrated. When fuse occurred, a rise in signal level over 50dB was observed for frequencies ranging ~20-500 KHz.
