Local Oscillator Phase Noise Induced Penalties in Optical Coherent Detection Systems Using Electronic Chromatic Dispersion Compensation

Abstract

We show that chromatic dispersion induced local oscillator (LO) phase noise to amplitude noise conversion significantly degrades the performance of a high-speed coherent system without optical dispersion compensation and tightens the requirement on LO linewidth.
