Characteristics and application of 50 μm cladding optical fibers

Abstract

Optical fibers of 50 μm cladding diameter are fabricated and characterized for optical and mechanical performance. We show that the geometrical limit based on minimum loss needs to be considered while designing miniature fibers suitable for integration into optical components.
