Novel Segmented Cascade Electroabsorption Modulator with Improved Bandwidth-Extinction Product

Abstract

A new configuration for electroabsorption modulators is presented and demonstrated. Compared to a conventional device of the same length, a three-stage cascaded modulator triples the RC-bandwidth while maintaining the same extinction and insertion loss.
