The interaction between fiber PMD and polarization hole burning in long-haul transmission systems

Abstract

We show that the effective spectral width of polarization hole-burning is strongly influenced by the transmission fiber’s polarization mode dispersion. We give a simplified theory of this effect along with experimental conformation.
