Abstract
We present a rigorous analysis of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in nonuniform fibers consisting of segments with non-overlapping Brillouin gain spectra (BGS). For a span of two segments we predict the optimum configuration with maximum SBS threshold. Theoretical results agree well with measured values.
