Exact Analysis for Statistics of Gain Variation in Counter-pumped Raman Amplifier

Abstract

We derived an analytical expression for the statistics of the polarization-dependent gain in a counter-pumped Raman amplifier and verified it with experimental and numerically simulated data. The results showed that the gain variation in a counter-pumped amplifier was only a factor of 3 smaller than that in a co-pumped scheme.
