Viterbi equalizer for mitigation of distortions from chromatic dispersion and PMD at 10 Gb/s

Abstract

Electrical distortion mitigation simulations at 10Gb/s using 2 and 4 state Viterbi equalizers exhibit a 3dB penalty limit for a DGD of 80ps and for a chromatic dispersion of 3100ps/nm, which outperforms analog equalizers.
