Reduction of self-and cross-phase modulation-induced impairments in long-haul WDM telecommunication systems via spectral inversion

Abstract

We show by calculation that a spectral inverter placed within a long-haul WDM network can reduce impairments due to Kerr nonlinearities by 5 dB or more. The benefits are robust against non-idealities and asymmetry.
