Abstract
Three different “standards development organizations” have been working on control plane standards or implementation agreements for optical networks. These organizations, the IETF, ITU-T and the OIF, have approached the problem of optical network control from different angles and methodologies. This paper reviews the status of network to network control interfaces between optical networks with respect to the functionality offered by the various standards and implementation agreements in development.
