Performance Analysis of Single-Section PMD Compensators Using Multiple Importance Sampling

Abstract

We compare the performance of single-section PMD compensators with either a fixed- or variable-DGD element as a function of both first- and second-order PMD using multiple importance sampling. We show that there is little benefit in using a variable-DGD element.
