Abstract

3R regeneration capabilities of two types of fiber-based signal regenerators are numerically compared. The regenerator based on spectrum broadening in normal-dispersion fiber has better 2R but worse retiming capabilities than the regenerator based on soliton compression in anomalous-dispersion fiber.
