Abstract

The large homogeneous bandwidth of thulium-doped fiber amplifier makes it suitable for optical gain clamping. This is demonstrated experimentally with gain variation of 1.2dB for 15dB input dynamic range, less than 1dB gain ripple over 20nm, without noise figure degradation.
