Abstract

In the Telecommunications industry, time has taught us that technology development is not necessarily aligned with reality. The hype that accompanied the Internet boom only made this more pronounced. For the last five years, Internet growth drove optical development efforts considerably, though perhaps not always in line with short-term expectations and requirements.
