High-Sensitivity Spectrographic Method for Characterizing Picosecond Optical Pulses and Data Modulators

Abstract

We demonstrate a new spectrographic method for the simultaneous temporal characterization of optical pulses and modulators. Optical pulse trains as weak as −40 dBm and the switching dynamics of an electroabsorption modulator are characterized with picosecond resolution.
