Enhanced Kerr effect experienced by ASE light

Abstract

A surprisingly high fiber optic Kerr coefficient for Amplified Spontaneous Emission has been measured through self-phase modulation. This enhancement originates from the dependence of two-photon absorption rate on the second-order degree of coherence of light.
