Abstract

All-optical clock frequency halving at 19.6 GHz is demonstrated by utilizing the nonlinear dynamics of semiconductor lasers advantageously. The quality of the frequency-divided clock signal is evaluated. Frequency-halved optical clock with a remarkably low level of phase noise (- 87 dBc/Hz @ 10 kHz offset frequency) is generated from a 19.6 GHz input optical clock. The generated clock exhibits a low phase noise over a large input frequency range of 400 MHz.
