Abstract

Optimum configuration for hybrid Raman/EDFA amplification in ultra-long-distance 40 Gbit/s WDM transmission was investigated. By optimizing the Raman gain, 16 x 40 Gbit/s WDM transmission over 2000 km was achieved with 80 km amplifier spacing.
