Design, fabrication, and characterization of high-attenuation fibers with cladding mode suppression

Abstract

High-attenuation fibers were developed with a special design to significantly reduce modal interference that occurs in short fiber length. A solution doping technique was used to introduce the transition elements into the core. The same degree of attenuation could be achieved at both 1310 and 1550 nm.
