High Speed Soliton Transmission on Installed Fibers

Abstract

Over the past five years, the use of optical solitons for data transmission has matured to the extent that as many as ten field experiments have been conducted in Japan, in Europe, and in the U.S. Thus, 27 years after the proposal, solitons appear ready to become commercial carriers of information.
