Abstract

Performance monitoring is essential for ensuring the high quality operation of undersea lightwave systems. The newest generation undersea lightwave systems use erbium doped fiber amplifiers along with wavelength division multiplexing and other technologies to expand network flexibility and increase the cable capacity into the terabit/second range.
