Polymeric in-line fiber modulator using novel processing techniques

Abstract

The predominant external modulator technology is based on integrated optic lithium niobate devices. Although these devices have demonstrated low half-wave voltages, they continue to suffer from the need for fiber pigtailing, which raises costs, increases insertion losses, and causes mechanical fragility.
