Abstract

Many telecommunication applications require optical filters and WDMs with special spectral response, which had been difficult to implement using planar waveguides. Examples are a 1.3/1.55-μm WDM with −50-dB isolation over 100-nm of bandwidth both around 1.3 μm and 1.55 μm, and a filter to flatten the gain of an erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) system over its full bandwidth (about 30 nm, from 1.53 to 1.56 μm). Our new design approach meets these needs.
