Abstract

Midspan spectral inversion (MSSI) can cancel group velocity dispersion-(GVD) induced distortion, which is one of the major limitations in high-bit-rate transmission on standard fiber.1 In this paper, we report experimental results from transmission of 2.5-ps pulses over more than 100-km standard fiber, corresponding to 1000 second-order dispersion lengths and four third-order dispersion (TOD) lengths. GVD is cancelled by MSSI leaving TOD as a major transmission limitation.
