Abstract

The development of transmission concepts suitable for extending the chromatic-dispersion limit on standard single-mode fibers (SSMF) from about 60 km to several hundred kilometers at 10 Gbit/s is one of the central tasks of fiber-optics research. A very promising attempt to overcome this limitation is the use of dispersion-mediated nonlinearity-enhanced transmission (DIMENSION).1 It has been shown that for typical FM efficiencies of DFB lasers, DIMENSION has the potential for a transmission of 10 Gbit/s over about 300 km of SSMF.2
