Ultralong-distance soliton transmission

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

This tutorial will cover the fundamentals of soliton transmission over transoceanic distances, with a strong emphasis on the recently invented technique of passive regeneration, known as "sliding-frequency guiding filters," which has greatly increased the potential capacity of such systems. Thus, after a brief review of the fundamental effects of amplifier noise on soliton transmission, the filter technology will be described in detail.
