Abstract

In coherent optical communication systems and some optical-fiber sensor systems, there is a requirement that the state of polarization (SOP) of incoming light signals match that of the light from the local oscillator. Quite a few methods have been proposed for polarization control. The fiber-loop and wave-plate methods require bulky mechanical driving.1 The fiber-squeezer approach needs too much pressure on the fiber and is not reliable for long-term operation.2
