Abstract

Photodarkening (PD) and photoluminescence (PL) have been suggested as indirect methods for studying the photoinduced index change occurring in Ge-doped optical fibers.1·2 Some doubts have, however, been raised about the PL signal because of the possible influence of photodarkening.11 Those doubts led us to investigate transient PD and PL signals coming from the same optical fiber.
