Abstract
Optoelectronic sources using either direct modulation (i.e., semiconductor laser) or externa1 modulation (i.e., solid-state laser and modulator) as well as P-I-N or Schottky photodiodes are now commercially available for frequencies as high as Ku band, and smaller rugged hybrid submodules are being developed (see Fig. 1).1 They are the key components in all fiber-optic links, which are found in more and more applications, notably, for antenna remoting and signal processing.
