High-sensitivity optically preamplified and optically demodulated DPSK receiver with active delay-line stabilization

Abstract

We report on the first, to our knowledge, active delay-line stabilization of an optically preamplified and optically demodulated DPSK receiver, which achieved a record sensitivity of 62 photons/bit at 3 Gbit/s and for which preliminary results indicate better than 100 photons/bit at 10 Gbit/s. Figure 1 shows a block diagram of the system.
