Hydrogen-induced loss increases in hermetic and nonhermetic erbium-doped amplifier fibers

Abstract

Although hydrogen-induced losses are not usually a problem for standard single-mode fibers,1 they are of potential concern for the highly doped fibers used in Er amplifiers. We have tested Er- doped fibers at high temperatures and in order to predict loss changes at typical operating conditions.
