Abstract

In multichannel unidirectional WDM applications that use cascaded erbium-doped-fiber amplifiers (EDFA’s), the saturated gain and ASE compression characteristics are important systemdesign considerations.1,2 Recently, the unidirectional gain-compression characteristics of an EDFA were reported with a broadband edge-emitting LED used as a probe source.3
