Abstract
A WDM-based single-hop local lightwave network is considered. The system can support a large number of users (M), and employs a limited number of WDM channels (N + 1), N of which are used for data transmission, while the (N + 1 )th is used as a control channel through which nodes arbitrate their transmission rights on data channels. Each node is equipped with a transmitter and a receiver, both of which are tunable over all N + 1 channels. Protocol and performance studies on such a system have been conducted before.1,2
