Abstract

Basic studies and trial experiments have been reported on fiber-optic digital radio links between base stations and mobile switching offices or between base stations and canister antennas.1,2 However, their values of carrier to noise ratios (CNRs) and system dynamic ranges are not sufficient for practical purposes. This paper report 42-kbit/s QPSK modulated data with 1.5-GHz subcarriers are successfully transmitted over 30-km single-mode fiber using a 1.3-μm DFB laser and a highly sensitive PIN photodiode receiver.
