Abstract

Asynchronous transfer-mode (ATM) based transmission on a passive optical network (PON) has been proposed earlier with an upstream bit rate of 20 Mbit/s for all services,1 and a 150 Mbit/s upstream bit rate for ATM broadband services only.2,3 In the latter case the system is seen as a wavelength overlay on top of narrowband services and CATV.
