Abstract
Nonlinear fiber Sagnac interferometer switches (NSISs) are of great interest because of their femtosecond response time and low required control power that allows the use of compact laser diodes.1-3 Wavelength-sensitive couplers in NSISs, however, are traditionally made with bulk-optic2 or fiber-optic1-3 configurations that have disadvantages in terms of limited integration potential, stability, tunability, productivity, and compactness. This paper reports a NSIS with an integrated silica-based planar lightwave circuit4 (PLC) that overcomes these problems and demonstrates diode-pumped time- division demultiplexing at 50.4 Gbit/s.
