Receiver OEIC on InP with integrated 1.3-1.5-μm wavelength demultiplexer

Abstract

Bidirectional optical links for broadband integrated services digital networks and fiber-to-the-home architectures are receiving strong attention at present. Key components in this respect are monolithic optoelectronic integrated circuits (OEICs). We present, we believe for the first time, an InP-based integrated subscriber circuit module (Fig. 1), in which the monolithic integration of a directional coupler for wavelength routing, a photodiode (PD) as the photosensitive device, a PD load resistor (R) and a junction field-effect transistor (JFET) as an amplifying stage has been successfully accomplished. The design of both the wavelength duplexer and the highly sensitive detector stage is based on previous work.1,2
