Abstract

Hydrogen-doping of optical fibers has been examined previously as an approach to increase the radiation hardness of Ge-doped1 and pure silica core2-4 optical fibers. A systematic study of the effects of H2-doping has been performed on four types of single-mode optical fibers to improve their radiation hardness for low-temperature (− 150°C) and high-dosage (107 rad) space environments.
