Abstract

Distributed fiber amplifiers are being considered as an alternative to discrete fiber amplifiers.1 The gain in the distributed amplifier typically is envisioned to make up for the passive loss of the fiber, to form a lossless link. In this paper, the pump power requirements and the stability of such transparent systems are investigated numerically and experimentally.
