Abstract

Distributed feedback laser diodes (DFB-LDs) with low distortion characteristics, lasing at 1.55-μm wavelength, are in strong demand as light sources for analog multichannel transmission systems using Er+3-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA).1 To achieve high quality multichannel transmission, low distortion characteristics over a wide modulation frequency range are required. However, conventional DFB-LDs for analog transmission exhibit low distortion characteristics only up to several hundred MHz.
