Abstract

Laser arrays are considered to be attractive light sources for optical frequency-division-multiplexing (FDM) systems.1 They are promising for compact multiple-channel transmitters. To date, distributed-feedback (DFB) and distributed-Bragg-reflector laser arrays have been demonstrated.1-3 To use them in the actual systems, however, laser-array modules must be developed. We describe the structure of a DFB laser- array module with a coupling loss of less than 5 dB for each channel and show the performance of the module.
