Abstract
The use of (3 × 3) directional couplers for constructing interferometric optical circuits has been proposed by several authors.1 For some applications the (3×3) couplers are required to have a wavelength-flattened response to handle multiple optical signals with different wavelengths. In a previous letter we reported the fabrication of wavelength-flattened waveguide-type (2 × 2) couplers based on silica-waveguide-on-Si technology.2 This paper describes the successful extension of this technology to wavelength-flattened (3×3) couplers.
